A RESIN ACID FROM PINUS SYLVESTRIS NEEDLES

In the course of a systematic search for resin acids in Pinus sylvestris, a new diterpene acid (12-oxo-8-hydroxy abiet-13(14)-enoic acid) was isolated and identified.This product, previously described from synthetic works was unknown from natural sources.

From the acid fraction of the hexane extract of the needles of Abies marocana three endperoxide diterpenoids, methyl 12α-hydroxyabietate and a triterpenoid, in addition to other resin acids have been isolated.
