The synthesis of the title compounds (1 and 2) involves conversion of arylpyrones to chloroaldehydes by Vilsmeier-Haack reagent followed by condensation of chloroaldehydes with thioglycollic ester in weakly basic medium.Cyclization of the resulting thiophene derivatives in presence of 50percent KOH followed by copper chromite-quinoline decarboxylation produces 1 and 2 in good yields.
