61789-44-4 Usage
Uses
Used in Lubricants Industry:
Ricinoleic acid is used as a lubricant due to its high viscosity and adhesive properties. Its ability to form a protective film on surfaces makes it an ideal choice for various industrial applications, including metalworking, automotive, and machinery industries.
Used in Cosmetics and Personal Care Industry:
Ricinoleic acid is used as an emollient, emulsifier, and surfactant in cosmetics and personal care products. Its moisturizing and soothing properties make it suitable for use in creams, lotions, and other skincare formulations.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Ricinoleic acid is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical formulations, particularly in the production of suppositories and ointments. Its ability to enhance the absorption and bioavailability of active ingredients makes it a valuable component in drug delivery systems.
Used in Biodiesel Production:
Ricinoleic acid is used as a feedstock for the production of biodiesel. Its high degree of unsaturation and hydroxyl group make it a suitable candidate for conversion into biofuels, contributing to the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources.
Used in Food Industry:
Ricinoleic acid is used as a food additive, particularly as an emulsifier and stabilizer in various food products. Its ability to improve the texture and shelf life of food items makes it a valuable ingredient in the food industry.
Used in Textile Industry:
Ricinoleic acid is used in the textile industry as a dye fixative, softening agent, and anti-static agent. Its unique properties help improve the quality and performance of textiles, making it an essential component in fabric production and finishing processes.
Characteristics
The presence of both hydroxy and carboxy groups in the molecule of ricinoleic acid enables it to undergo intermolecular esterification, thus resulting in the formation of the oligomeric ricinoleic acid. The oligomeric ricinoleic acid with different acid value (which is an indirect index for oligomerization degree) has different applications. For example, as an additive in shampoos, the oligomeric ricinoleic acid with an acid value of 60–90 mg KOH/g is required while for cosmetic formulations, an acid value of 20–40 mg KOH/g is suitable. The oligomeric ricinoleic acid can also be used as lubricant for metal cutting oils due to its appropriate viscosity, good adsorptivity and film formation ability on metal surfaces.
Preparation
Ricinoleic acid can be easily prepared by hydrolysis of castor oil.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 61789-44-4 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,1,7,8 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 61789-44:
(7*6)+(6*1)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*9)+(2*4)+(1*4)=154
154 % 10 = 4
So 61789-44-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
