Monoligand and mixed ligand chromium(III) complexes with sulfosalicylic acid and monoamine complexones in aqueous solution

The interaction of chromium(III) with methyliminodiacetic (H 2mida), N-(2-hydroxyethyl)iminodiacetic (H2heida), nitrilotriacetic (H3nta), and sulfosalicylic (H3ssal) acids was studied spectrophotometrically. It was established that complex formation in binary and ternary systems depends on the reagent concentration and the acidity of the solution. The following complexes were found: CrHssal+, Crssal, Cr(Hmida)(Hssal), Cr(mida)(Hssal)-, Cr(mida)(ssal) 2-, Cr(heida)(Hssal)-, Cr(heida)(ssal)2-, Cr(nta)(Hssal)2-, and Cr(nta)(ssal)3-. The logarithms of the stability constants at μ = 0.1 (NaClO4) are 15.79 ± 1.02, 14.27 ± 0.85, 30.77 ± 0.30, 28.34 ± 0.39, 27.25 ± 0.34, 27.32 ± 0.89, 25.93 ± 0.95,28.19 ± 0.14, and 25.07 ± 0.45, respectively. An analysis of the experimental data was carried out using a mathematical model that allowed us to assess the possibility of the existence of a wide variety of complex species in the solution and to select those of them that are sufficient for the reproduction of the pattern observed.
