Synthesis and antibacterial activity of prenyloxy chalcones and prenyloxyaurones

The prenyloxy aurones 4a-d were synthesized by oxidative cyclization of new prenyloxy chalcones with mercuric acetate reagent. Prenyloxy chalcones 3a-f were synthesized by condensation of 4'-prenyloxy 2'-hydroxy acetophenone 1 with corresponding aromatic aldehydes and the structures have been established on the basis of elemental (CH) analysis IR, 1H NMR, Mass spectral data. The antibacterial activity of these products has been studied against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
