Preparation of 4-(1-alkyl-benzo[d]imidazole-2-yl)-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo(b)[1,4]thiazepines

The syntheses of 4-(1-alkyl-benzo [d] imidazole-2-yl)-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydrobenzo (b)[1,4]thiazepines 6 involving the condensation of 2-aminothiophenol with benzimidazole chalcone 1 using acetic acid as catalyst in refluxing methanol is reported. Compound 6 is dehydrogenated using suitable reagents to yield 4.-(1-alkyl-benzo[d]imidazole-2-yl)-2-phenylbenzo(b)[1,4]thiazepines 4. The structures of 4 are supported by spectral and analytical data.
