Urea, N-methyl-N-phenyl-N'-propyl-, also known as N,N'-dimethyl-N-phenyl-N'-propylurea or DMPP, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C11H18N2O. It is a derivative of urea, where two methyl groups and a propyl group are attached to the nitrogen atoms, and a phenyl group is attached to one of the nitrogen atoms. DMPP is a widely used nitrification inhibitor in agriculture, which helps to reduce the loss of nitrogen from the soil by inhibiting the activity of nitrifying bacteria. This, in turn, improves the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers and reduces environmental pollution caused by nitrogen leaching. The compound is also used as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
