Usage

General Description

1-(4-chlorophenyl)-2,2-diphenylethanol, also known as clomiphene, is a synthetic compound that acts as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). It is commonly used as a fertility medication to stimulate ovulation in women who have trouble conceiving. Clomiphene works by blocking the negative feedback of estrogen on the hypothalamus, which in turn increases the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), leading to ovulation. It is also used off-label for the treatment of male infertility and as a treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome. Additionally, clomiphene has been investigated for its potential use in the treatment of breast cancer, as it has both anti-estrogenic and estrogenic effects that can inhibit the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors.
