The nickel-catalyzed reductive cleavage of esters in the absence of an external reductant, which involves the cleavage of an inert acyl C-O bond in O-Alkyl esters is reported. Various groups, such as N-containing heterocycles, esters, amides, and even arene rings can function as a directing group.

, (2007/10/13)
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and high-yield method for preparing a bisphosphine oxide. SOLUTION: The method for preparing a bisphosphine oxide represented by general formula (1) comprises steps of causing an organometallic reagent prepared from a halogenated compound represented by general formula (2) to react with a phosphorous compound represented by general formula (3) to form a phosphine oxide represented by general formula (4), and causing the phosphine oxide represented by general formula (4) to react with a phosphorous compound represented by general formula (5) or a phosphorous compound represented by general formula (6) in the presence of a catalyst.
