INDANTHRENE BLACK BBN is a deep green to black powder that is ethanol and insoluble in water, but soluble in various organic solvents such as 2-Chlorophenol, 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydronaphthalene, and Xylene. It is also slightly soluble in Acetone, Chloroform, Pyridine, and Toluene. When treated with concentrated sulfuric acid, it turns dark purple, and upon dilution, it precipitates as dark purple. In concentrated nitric acid, it forms SAP green, and it can be reduced to purple leuco in alkaline conditions and to wine leuco in acidic conditions.
