Synthesis of a shape-persistent macrocycle with intraannular carboxylic acid groups

The synthesis of a shape-persistent macrocycle based on the phenylene-ethynylene backbone by the intermolecular oxidative Glaser-coupling of appropriate bisacetylenes is described. The ring contains two intraannular methyl carboxylates that were hydrolyze
