Disodium 5-[[4'-[[7-(acetylamino)-1-hydroxy-3-sulphonato-2-naphthyl]azo][1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl]azo]salicylate is a complex organic compound with a dark red to blue light appearance. It is soluble in water, where it exhibits a cherry red color. disodium 5-[[4'-[[7-(acetylamino)-1-hydroxy-3-sulphonato-2-naphthyl]azo][1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl]azo]salicylate undergoes color changes when exposed to strong sulfuric acid (dark red to light purple) and when diluted (brown). When mixed with strong hydrochloric acid, it forms a brown light purple precipitate, and upon the addition of a thick sodium hydroxide solution, it results in a red light brown color and a brick red precipitate.
