α-substituted cis-α,β-dibenzyl-γ-butyrolactones (1) were synthesized in good yields in a highly diastereoselective manner via electrophilic additions to the metal enolates β,γ-disubstituted α-benzyl-γ-butyrolactones (2) as a key step.
