Stereodefined homoallylzinc halides readily participate in a Pd-catalyzed stereospecific (>/= 98percent) substitution reaction with β-bromo-substituted α,β-unsaturated carbonyl derivatives, thereby providing a highly stereoselective and efficient route to butenolides and furans of terpenoid origin, such as mokupalide (1) and dendrolasin (2).
