Condensation of pendimethalin(N-(1-ethylpropyl)-3,4-dimethyl-2,6-dinitrobenzenamine, 2) with Na2S/NaHCO3(aq.) in methyl alcohol give a novel nitrosoaldehyde (3) by internal redox reaction along with the expected product N-(1-ethylpropyl)-3,4-dimethyl-2-nitrobenzene-1,6-diamine (1).The structure of 3 has been proposed on the basis of 1R, UV, 1H-NMR and mass spectral studies.

This invention relates to novel 1H- and 2H-benzotriazoles. These benzotriazoles are useful as herbicidal agents for the control of undesirable broadleaf weeds and grass weeds and may be applied to the foliage of undesirable plants or to soil containing seeds of said undesirable plants in order to obtain the control thereof.
