2-PalMitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, also known as palmitoyl-GPC, is a naturally occurring lipid molecule that is a component of cell membranes. It is derived from the combination of the fatty acid palmitic acid and the glycerophospholipid sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine. This molecule plays a crucial role in maintaining the structural integrity and fluidity of cell membranes, as well as being involved in various cellular processes.
Used in Food Industry:
2-PalMitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is used as a food preservative for its ability to form complexes with starch, which helps to retard its retrogradation during storage. This property helps to maintain the quality and texture of food products, particularly those containing starch, for an extended period.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
2-PalMitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is used as a potential therapeutic agent for various health conditions. Its role in maintaining cell membrane integrity and fluidity makes it a promising candidate for the treatment of neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties suggest potential applications in the treatment of inflammatory conditions and pain management.
Used in Cosmetic Industry:
2-PalMitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is used as an ingredient in cosmetic products for its moisturizing and skin barrier-strengthening properties. Its ability to interact with the lipid components of the skin helps to maintain skin hydration and protect against environmental stressors, making it a valuable component in skincare formulations.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 66757-27-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,6,7,5 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 7 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 66757-27:
(7*6)+(6*6)+(5*7)+(4*5)+(3*7)+(2*2)+(1*7)=165
165 % 10 = 5
So 66757-27-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Evidence for Radiation Damage of Saturated Phosphatidylcholine in Bilayers

Casu, Mariano,Lai, Adolfo,Erriu, Gianni,Onnis, Salvatore,Zucca, Nazario

, p. 408 - 412 (2007/10/02)

Multilayer membranes of 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine were prepared in D2O and exposed to γ-radiation.Changes in the chemical structure due to irradiation were studied by (1)H, (13)C and (31)P NMR after lyophilization and dissolution in chloroform-methanol (1:2 v/v).One- and two-dimensional techniques were used. 1-Palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine, 2-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine, glycero-3-phosphorylcholine and palmitic acid were identified as new components.Their development during irradiation was quantitatively determined. The results were discussed in terms of possible reaction steps responsible for the radiolytic decomposition. Key words: (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, (31)P NMR, 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine, bilayer, radiation damage
