Description
LAURETH-4, also known as polyethylene glycol (4) lauryl ether, is a non-ionic surfactant derived from the ethoxylation of lauryl alcohol. It is a clear, colorless liquid with mild odor and is soluble in water. LAURETH-4 is known for its excellent wetting, foaming, and emulsifying properties, making it a versatile ingredient in various formulations.
Used in Cosmetics Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as an antistatic agent and emulsifier for its ability to reduce static electricity and improve the stability of cosmetic formulations. However, it has a high possibility of causing skin irritation and acne, so it should be used with caution.
Used in Cleaning Products Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a wetting agent and detergent in cleaning products to enhance their cleaning power and improve the solubility of other ingredients.
Used in Textile Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a wetting agent in textile processing to improve the wetting and spreading of dyes and other chemicals on the fabric, resulting in more even and consistent dyeing.
Used in Agricultural Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as an adjuvant in agrochemical formulations to improve the wetting and spreading of pesticides and herbicides on plant surfaces, enhancing their effectiveness.
Used in Metalworking Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a lubricant and coolant in metalworking processes to reduce friction and heat, improving the efficiency and quality of the machining process.
Used in Personal Care Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a solubilizer and emulsifier in personal care products such as shampoos, conditioners, and body washes to improve the texture and stability of the formulations.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a solubilizer and emulsifier in pharmaceutical formulations to improve the solubility and stability of active ingredients, enhancing their bioavailability and effectiveness.
Used in Food Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as an emulsifier and wetting agent in food products to improve the stability and texture of emulsions, such as salad dressings and sauces.
Used in Paper and Pulp Industry:
LAURETH-4 is used as a wetting agent in paper and pulp processing to improve the wetting and spreading of chemicals on the fibers, resulting in more uniform and consistent paper products.

Synthesis
KOH(1g) and dodecanol (24.8 g ) were heated to 85° C in the reactor, then vacuumed and filled with nitrogen for 2 to 3 times. The mixtrue was heated to 120 ℃~130℃, and added with ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO) or their mixture. After the reaction is completed, the solution was neutralized with H2SO4(98%) and filtered to give Laureth-4.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 68439-50-9 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,8,4,3 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 68439-50:
(7*6)+(6*8)+(5*4)+(4*3)+(3*9)+(2*5)+(1*0)=159
159 % 10 = 9
So 68439-50-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
