The reaction between Os2(OAc)4Cl2 and Hap (Hap is 2-anilinopyridine) under prolonged refluxing conditions resulted in a new Os2(III) compound, Os2(ap)4Cl2 (1). The molecular structure of 1 was determined from a single crystal X-ray diffraction study, which revealed an Os-Os bond length of 2.396[1] ?, and a cis-(2,2) arrangement of the ap ligands. Also reported are magnetic, electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of 1.
