Description

RENARDINE is a hepatotoxic alkaloid derived from Senecio renardi and Nardosmia laevogata. It forms colorless, irregular crystals when recrystallized from ethanol and exhibits slight levorotatory properties with [α]D 2.23° (CHCI3). RENARDINE can yield a crystalline picrate with a melting point of 219-220°C, bitartrate with a melting point of 201°C, and the methiodide which decomposes at 194-6°C.
