The present invention is directed to certain {2-(alkyl)-3-[2-(5-fluoro-4-pyrimidinyl)hydrazino]-3-oxopropyl}hydroxyformamide derivatives, compositions containing them, the use of such compounds in the inhibition of bacterial peptide deformylase (PDF) activity, and in the treatment of bacterial infections. Specifically, the invention is directed to compounds of formula (I), wherein R1, R2 and R3 are defined herein and to pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of this invention are bacterial peptide deformylase inhibitors and can be useful in the treatment of bacterial infections.

The present invention relates to compounds of the Formula (I): wherein Z is -NH-, -O- or -S-; R 1 represents bromo or chloro; R 3 represents C 1-3 alkoxy or hydrogen; R 2 is selected from one of the following three groups: (i) Q 1 X 1 - wherein X 1 and Q 1 are as defined herein; (ii) Q 15 W 3 - wherein Q 15 and W 3 are as defined herein; and (iii) Q 21 W 4 C 1-5 alkylX 1 wherein X 1 , W 4 and Q 21 are as defined herein; and salts thereof; their use in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the production of an antiangiogenic and/or vascular permeability reducing effect in warm blooded animals; processes for the preparation of such compounds; pharmaceutical compositions containing a compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and methods of treating disease states involving angiogenesis by administering a compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The compounds of formula (I) inhibit the effects of VEGF, a property of value in the treatment of a number of disease states including cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

The invention concerns quinazoline derivatives of Formula (I): (A chemical formula should be inserted here - please see paper copy enclosed herewith) wherein Z is an O, S, SO, SO2, N(R2) or C(R2)2 group wherein each R2 group is hydrogen or (1-8C) alkyl, m is 0, 1, 2 or 3, each R1 group is selected from halogeno, (1-8C) alkyl, (1-6C) alkoxy and any of the other meanings defined in the description, n is 0, 1, 2 or 3, and each R3 group is selected from halogeno, (1-8C) alkyl, (1-6C) alkoxy and any of the other meanings defined in the description, or pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof, processes for their preparation, pharmaceutical compositions containing them and their use in the manufacture of a medicament for use as an anti-invasive agent in the containment and/or treatment of solid tumour disease.
