Diacetyl ketene N,S-acetal was used for the synthesis of 5-acetyl-6-amino-4-methylsulfanylpyrimidines substituted at the exocyclic nitrogen atom, which were further oxidized with m-chloroperbenzoic acid to the corresponding methylsulfonylpyrimidines. Reac
