The complex of N,N-diethyl o-nitrophenoxy acetamide and POCl3 on reaction with substituted salicylaldehyde yielded 3-(o-nitrophenoxy) coumarins.These on reaction with triethylphosphite yielded hitherto unknown benzopyranobenzoxazine ring system through a novel rearrangement.
