Substitution of a cyclopentadienyl ring of cobaltocene by diene, quinone and cyclopentadienone moieties serves as a synthetic procedure for a series of (η4-ligand)(cyclopentadienyl)cobalt complexes; some speculation as to the involvement of an η1-cyclopentadienyl intermediate in these transformations is advanced.
