The synthesis of organometallic isocyanocyclopentadienides, which results in aromatic isocyanides incorporating nonbenzenoid π-systems was investigated. The analysis of physical, chemical, electrochemical and spectroscopic properties shows that the electronic influence of the ferrocenyl moiety was similiar to aryl substituents. The electrochemical properties states that [Cr(CNR)6]0,1+,2+ were consistent, with the isocyanocymantrene, a stronger π-acid than isocyanoferrocene. The electronic properties of the isocyanocyclopentadienide ligand, which can be turned to a substantial extent by varying the nature of the metal fragment bound to its ring, were also elaborated.
