Usage

General Description

Benzyl(2-hydroxyethyl)dimethylammonium chloride, also known as benzalkonium chloride, is a quaternary ammonium compound commonly used as a disinfectant and antiseptic. It is effective at killing a wide range of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, making it a key ingredient in many household cleaners, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes. Benzalkonium chloride works by disrupting the cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to their destruction. The invention provides N-benzyl-2-hydroxy-N,N-dimethylethane-1-ammonium chloride and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the following steps: 1, adding an acetone solution of N,N-dimethylethanolamine into an acetone solution of benzyl chloride with a temperature of 40-60 DEG C and carrying out uniform mixing to obtain a mixed solution, wherein a mass ratio of benzyl chloride to N,N-dimethylethanolamine is (2.4-2.6): (1.6-2.0); 2, carrying out heat treatment on the mixed solution at 40-60 DEG C, and carrying out a quaternization reaction on benzyl chloride and N,N-dimethylethanolamine to obtain a reaction solution; and 3, removing impurities in the reaction solution, then carrying out washing with n-hexane, separating a product and drying the product so as to obtain N-benzyl-2-hydroxy-N,N-dimethylethane-1-ammonium chloride. According to the invention, operation is easy, production cost is low, time consumption is low, aftertreatment is convenient, and a synthesis route is easy and simple.
