A variety of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds undergo smooth α-amination with diethyl azodicarboxylate (DEAD) on the surface of silica gel impregnated with indium trichloride under microwave irradiation and solvent-free conditions. Improved yields and enhanced re
Silica aerogel-iron oxide nanocomposites: Recoverable catalysts in conjugate additions and in the Biginelli reaction

, p. 1553 - 1556 (2003)
Ferrihydrite silica aerogels containing 11-13% iron and a surface area of 500-600 m2/g are catalysts for the title reactions. They are recovered and reused without loss of activity.
Conjugate addition to diethyl azodicarboxylate under organic- perfluorinated biphasic homogeneous catalysis by nickel(II) species
Meseguer, Miriam,Moreno-Ma?as, Marcial,Vallribera, Adelina
, p. 4093 - 4095 (2007/10/03)
The nickel(II) complex of the Schiff base of salicylaldehyde and 4- perfluorodecylaniline catalyzes the conjugate addition of β-diketones to electron-deficient substrates. Electrophilic amination with azodicarboxylate affords quaternary centers. The catal

Bis(2,4-pentanedionato)nickel(II) is found to be a mild, efficient, and simple to use catalyst for the Michael additions of β-dicarbonyls.Yields are higher than with traditional strongly basic catalysts, unwanted side reactions are reduced, and workup procedures are greatly simplified. The reactions appear to be quite general as β-diketones, β-keto esters, β-keto amides, and β-diesters are all found to react.A rational mechanism which suggests further research is presented.
