During investigation of the oxidation of some azobenzoic esters with 40percent p-methoxycarbonylperbenzoic acid and with 30percent hydrogen peroxide it was established that the former is more effective as an oxidizing agent.The obtained mixtures of the corresponding azoxy compounds are characterized by the existence of nematic and smectic phases A and E.
