The reaction of the polymeric digold(I) diacetylide [(AuCCCH2OC6H4)2 SO2]n with diphosphane ligands PP leads to the formation of either macrocyclic ring complexes [(AuCCCH2OC6H4)2 SO2(μ-PP)] or [2]catenanes [(AuCCCH2OC6H4)2 SO2(μ-PP)]2 by a self-assembly process.
