Cyclic Sulfenylcarboxylates from 4H-3,1-Benzoxathiin-4-one 1-Oxides. A New Ring Contraction Reaction

, p. 1708 - 1727 (2007/10/02)
4H-3,1-Benzoxathiin-4-one 1-oxides 4 eliminate aldehydes on heating.Corresponding to the substituent in 8-position, ring contraction occurs to give 3H-2,1-benzoxathiol-3-ones 2 or 3H-1,2-benzisothiazol-3-ones 8.The dependance on the substituents and the mechanism of the reaction are discussed.
The First Isolated Sulfinylcarboxylate; Crystal and Molecular Structure
Walter, Wolfgang,Krische, Bernd,Adiwidjaja, Gunadi
, p. 14 - 27 (2007/10/02)
Cyclic Sulfinylcarboxylates 2 are formed from corresponding sulfenylcarboxylates 1 by oxidation with 3-chloroperbenzoic acid. The structure of 2e has been determined from X-ray data and refined to R = 0.06. 2e crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c.With exception of the exocyclic sulfinyl oxygen the molecule is nearly planar and reveals only a small amount of no-bond resonance compared with the sulfenylcarboxylate 1e.
