Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 74359-41-4 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 7,4,3,5 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 74359-41:
(7*7)+(6*4)+(5*3)+(4*5)+(3*9)+(2*4)+(1*1)=144
144 % 10 = 4
So 74359-41-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

An investigation by means of correlation analysis into the mechanisms of oxidation of aryl methyl sulfides and sulfoxides by dimethyldioxirane in various solvents

Hanson, Peter,Hendrickx, Ramon A.A.J.,Smith, John R. Lindsay

, p. XX745-761 (2008/09/17)

Relative rate constants have been measured for the oxidation of aryl methyl sulfides and sulfoxides by dimethyldioxirane in acetone, in mixtures of acetone with aprotic co-solvents of both higher and lower relative permittivity, and in aqueous acetone mixtures. Correlation analyses of the effects of substituents in the different solvents show that, with one exception, reactions take place via a single step mechanism in which the formation of the new SO bond and the elimination of acetone occur concertedly. The exception was oxidation of the sulfides in aqueous acetone containing the highest proportion of water of those studied (20% v/v). Here, the behaviour of the reaction is consistent with a two-step mechanism in which the oxidant reversibly attacks the sulfide to form an open-chain sulfonium betaine that subsequently fragments to sulfoxide and acetone. There is no evidence for the participation of an intermediate dioxathietane as has been found in the case of sulfide oxidations by (trifluoromethyl)methyldioxirane in CH2Cl2 and similar aprotic solvents. It is not justified to generalise a mechanism involving a betaine, with or without a derived dioxathietane, to the reactions of dimethyldioxirane in acetone. Generation of peracetic acid on aging of perborate solution in acetic acid: Kinetics of oxidation of organic sulfides

Karunakaran,Sheerin,Palanisamy

, p. 398 - 400 (2007/10/03)

Perborate in acetic acid generates peracetic acid on aging and affords H2O2 in ethylene glycol; the oxidations of dialkyl, alkyl aryl and diaryl sulfides in ethylene glycol-acetic acid are second order and uncatalysed by acid, and fo

On the mechanism of the perborate oxidation of organic sulfides in glacial acetic acid

Karunakaran, Chockalingam,Kamalam, Ramasamy

, p. 3261 - 3263 (2007/10/03)

Perborate solution in glacial acetic acid generates peracetic acid on aging, and the peracetic acid oxidation of organic sulfides is fast. The oxidation with fresh solutions of perborate in acetic acid is smooth and is second order, uncatalyzed by acid; h
