The compounds mentioned in the title were synthesized from 2,5-anhydro-D-glucitol. 2,5-Anhydrogalactitol forms complexes with cations involving the two hydroxyl groups in the ring and the ring-oxygen atom; 2,5-anhydroallitol does not form such complexes.T
