The mass spectra of the positive and negative ions of derivatives of 1-phenyl-3-methyl- and 1,3-diphenyltriazenes with substituents of various types (Me, RO, Br, RO2C, NO2) at the para position and NO2 at the meta position of the benzene ring were investigated.Ions associated unambiguously with the structure of the two tautomeric forms of the molecular ion are formed both under electron impact and during dissociative resonance capture of electrons, and this makes it possible to identify disubstituted triazenes by mass spectrometry and to determine qualitatively the content of the tautomeric forms in the gas phase.
