The novel endoperoxide of the bicyclic valence tautomer of cyclooctatetraene is prepared, characterized, and transformed into a series of new and valuable synthetic intermediates derived from the bicycloocta-2,4,7-triene skeleton via base-catalyzed isomerization and MnO2 oxidation, thermolysis and mCPBA oxidation, triphenylphosphine deoxygenation, and exhaustive diimide reduction.
