Disilane, 1,1,2,2-tetraethyl-, also known as tetraethyldisilane, is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula (C2H5)2Si-Si(C2H5)2. It is a colorless, volatile liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Disilane, 1,1,2,2-tetraethyl- is primarily used as a precursor in the synthesis of various organosilicon compounds, particularly in the production of silicones and silanes. It is also employed as a coupling agent in the manufacturing of composite materials, as well as a reducing agent in certain chemical reactions.
