New approach to flavonols via base-mediated cyclization: Total synthesis of 3,5,6,7-tetramethoxyflavone
Kraus, George A.,Gupta, Vinayak,Kempema, Aaron
experimental part, p. 385 - 388 (2012/03/10)
A new methodology for the synthesis of flavonols is described. The key step is a base-mediated cyclization-isomerization-elimination reaction which results in the formation of flavonols. Using this strategy, three flavonols are synthesized and characteriz
ANTIFUNGAL PHLOROGLUCINOL DERIVATIVES AND LIPOPHILIC FLAVONOIDS FROM HELICHRYSUM DECUMBENS
Tomas-Lorente, Francisco,Iniesta-Sanmartin, Esther,Tomas-Barberan, Francisco A.,Trowtizsch-Kienast, Wolfram,Wray, Victor
, p. 1613 - 1616 (2007/10/02)
From the aerial parts of Helichrysum decumbens, three new antifungal phloroglucinol derivatives have been identified.Their structures have been established by UV, IR, EIMS, FAB-MS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR techniques. In addition, the highly methylated flavonoids 3,5-dihydroxy-6,7,8-trimethoxyflavone, 5,7-dihydroxy-3,6,8-trimethoxyflavone and 3,5-dihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone have been detected, the latter being a new naturally occurring compound. The phloroglucinols prevented the growth of Cladosporium herbarum in a bio-assay.These secondary metabolites are externally deposited on the plant surfaces. Key Word Index-Helichrysum decumbens; Compositae; prenylated phloroglucinols; antifungal compounds; lipophilic flavonoids; 3,5-dihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone.

Syntheses of 3,5,6,7-tetramethoxyflavone (1) and 4'-hydroxy-3,5,6,7,3',5'-hexamethoxyflavone (2), the constituents of Gomphrena martiana and Murraya paniculata, respectively, are described starting from 2-hydroxy-ω,4,6-trimethoxyacetophenone

Four flavanoids were identified from the external leaf extract of Adenostoma sparsifolium: the two new flavones 3,7-dihydroxy-5,6-dimethoxyflavone and 3,5,7-trihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone and the known compounds galangin and pinocembrin.Key Word Index - Adenostoma sparsifolium; Rosaceae; flavonoids; 3,7-dihydroxy-5,6-dimethoxyflavone; 3,5,7-trihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone; galangin; pinocembrin
