The O-ethylboranediyl derivatives of certain polyhydroxy compounds 1 having a threo- or xylo-configuration are each pairs of structural isomers 2 and 3.This is evident from the 13C- and 1H-NMR spectra of di-O-ethylboranediyltheitol (2a/3a), 1-O-acetyl-di-O-ethylboranediylxylitol (2b/3b) and tri-O-ethylboranediylglucitol (2c/3c).Gaschromatographic separations of 2/3 have not yet been achieved.
