LIQUID CRYSTALLINE PHASES IN 4-PROPIONYL-4 prime -n-ALKANOYLOXYAZOBENZENES.

Poeti,Fanelli,Braghetti

, p. 163 - 184 (2007/10/02)

A series of homologues of 4-propionyl-4 prime -n-alkanoyloxyazobenzenes was prepared and the mesomorphic behavior was studied by optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. All the homologues are liquid crystals with nematic as well as smectic phases. The presence of smectic polymorphism and of monotropic phases may be considered as the most important characteristics of these compounds.
