By use of the tripodal triphosphine ligands CH3C(CH2PPh2)3, triphos, and CH3C(CH2PEt2)3, etriphos, a new series of mixed-ligand dinuclear complexes of cyclo-triphosphorus has been obtained. The complexes have the general formula [(triphos)Co[μ-(η3-P3)]M(etriphos)]Y2, where M = Fe, Co, Ni and Y = PF6, BPh4. In contrast to the phenyl-substituted triphosphine triphos, the ethyl-substituted etriphos has been found to coordinate the iron(II) cation, thus allowing dinuclear complexes of c-P3 with 30 valence electrons to be obtained for the first time. The compound [(triphos)Co[μ-(η3-P3)]-Fe(etriphos)](PF 6)2·CH2Cl2 has been characterized by an X-ray diffraction study. Crystal data: orthorhombic, P21nb, Z = 4, a = 24.108 (5) A?, b = 21.346 (7) A?, c = 14.348 (3) A?; R = 0.074 for 3187 reflections.
