Reactions with Isocyanides. - Synthesis of Dispiro-1,3-dioxolanes

The synthesis of dispiro-1,3-dioxolanes, obtained from 2,3,4-trioxoquinolines and aromatic isocyanides, is described.The compounds 3a-e are formed via the dipolar intermediates 2a-e which add an additional molecule trioxoquinoline and subsequently undergoe cyclisation reaction.Their structures were elucidated from IR and MS data and, in the case of 3a, by an X-ray structure analysis.
