Synthesis of Some 1,4-Diarylpyridazin-6(1H)-ones

β-Arylglutaconic anhydrides (I) undergo cuopling reaction with various diazotized anilines to give products which are assigned hydrazone structure (II) on the basis of spectral evidence.The hydrazones (II) on treatment with hot alkali isomerize to give 1,4-diarylpyridazin-6(1H)-one-3-carboxylic acids (III).Decarboxylation of the acids (III) affords 1,4-diarylpyridazin-6(1H)-ones (IV).
