Thermolabile 1-methyl- and 1-ethyl-3,5-diphenyl-λ4-thiabenzenes (1a,b) are trapped by tricarbonylchromium, -molybdenum, and -tungsten and stabilized by the transition metal (3a,b - 5a,b).The X-ray analysis of the chromium complex 3a shows that the complexed ligand is non-planar.No bonding interactions exist between the metal and the sulfur atom. The S-methyl group of the coordinated heterocycle is metalated by tert-butyllithium.The obtained organolithium compounds 3c, 4c, 5c are alkylated, silylated or germylated, resp., by electrophiles such as CH3I, C3H5Br, PhCH2Br, Me3SiCl, and Me3GeCl.
