Reaction of C-2 substituted cyclohexenone with an enantiomerically pure α-bromopentenoate leads to enantiopure tricyclooctane, which can be transformed into a taxoid like compound having the typical bicyclo[5.3.1] undecane skeleton. Graphical Abstract
