Z-Ile-O(TBA), also known as N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-isoleucine tert-butyl ester, is a chemical compound derived from the amino acid L-isoleucine. It is a protected form of L-isoleucine, where the amino group is capped with a benzyloxycarbonyl (Z) group, and the carboxylic acid group is esterified with a tert-butyl (TBA) group. Z-Ile-O(TBA) is commonly used in peptide synthesis as a building block, allowing for the stepwise assembly of peptide chains while protecting the reactive groups from unwanted side reactions. The Z group is later removed under acidic conditions to expose the free amino group, enabling further peptide bond formation, while the TBA group is cleaved under basic conditions to release the final peptide product.
