Ni(II) and Cu(II) Complexes of Some Isonitrosoacetophenones

Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of isonitrosoacetophenone (HINAP) and 4-X-isonitrosoacetophenones (X = Cl, Br, CH3 and OCH3) of the type ML2*nH2O (n = 0 or 2) have been prepared and characterised on the basis of elemental analyses, spectral and magnetic moment measurements.IR spectral data suggest an asymmetric structure for these complexes with the ligand acting as a bidentate chelating agent coordinating through carbonyl oxygen and nitrogen or oxygen of the oximino group.Octahedral structures have been assigned to Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes on the basis of their electronic spectra.The magnetic moment data indicate antiferromagnetic behaviour in Cu(II) complexes.
