The preparation, characterization and fungicidal screening of the complexes having the composition, , where L = N-benzoyl-N'-(4-phenylthiazole-2-yl)thiocarbamide (BPTTU); M = Cu(2+) for X = Cl(-), Br(-), NO3(-), ClO4(-); M = Ni(2+) for X = Cl(-) and M = Co(2+) for X = Cl(-), NO3(-) are described. All the complexes are moderately soluble in common organic solvents and non-electrolytes in acetone. The ligand behaves as a tridentate chelating agent with the carbonyl oxygen, thiocarbonyl sulphur and the thiazole ring nitrogen as the principal bonding sites. The magnetic moment values are in agreement with the above stoichiometry but anomalously diamagnetic or low magnetic behaviour of some of the complexes may be due to spin-spin interaction. The electronic spectra suggest octahedral stereochemistry for the complexes. The complexes exhibit antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Fusarium oxysporium and Helminthosporium oryzae.
