5-Mercapto-S-triazoles (3) on condensation with 3-(ω-bromoacetyl)coumarins and subsequent cyclization of intermediate ketone 4 with PPA furnish the corresponding thiazolo-s-triazoles (5) and not the isomeric thiazolo-s-triazoles (7).This has been proved by an unequivocal synthesis of 7 through the POCl3 cyclization of fusion of 2-benzoyl-hydrazine-4-coumarinyl thiazole hydrobromide (6).The structural assignment of the products is based on elemental analysis and spectral data.
