Synthesis of Biologically Active 3,5-Dinitrophthaloyl- and 3,5-Diaminophthaloyl-amino Acids and Dipeptide Derivatives

Synthesis of a series of 3,5-dinitrophthaloylamino acids (II-XIII) and their corresponding 3,5-diaminophthaloyl derivatives (XIV-XXV) is described.Coupling of 3,5-dinitrophthaloylamino acids with amino acid methylester hydrochlorides in dioxane-DMF-Et3N medium using DCC method furnishes the desired 3,5-dinitrophthaloyldipeptide methyl esters (XXVI-XL). 3,5-Dinitrophthaloyl-Gly (II) and the corresponding derivatives of L-Ala (III), DL-Ser (VIII), L-Val (V), L-Leu (VI) and DL-Phe (VII), N2,N6-bis(3,5-dinitrophthaloyl)-L-Lys (XII) and N2,N5-bis(3,5-dinitrophthalo-yl)-L-Orn (XIII) have been found to be active against a number of microorganisms.
