Reaction of 2-cyanomethyl-3,1-benzoxazin-4(H)-one (I) with hydrazines, aniline and sulphamidic compounds gives 4(3H)-quinazolinones (II) or N-cyanoacetylanthranilic acid arylhydrazides (III), o-(cyanoacetamido)benzanilide (IV) and anilide derivatives (IX,X), respectively.Condensation of I with active methylene compounds, benzene (under Friedel-Crafts conditions), acid anhydrides and acid imides has also been investigated.
