C27H35ClO2, orthorhombic, P212121, a=6.835(2), b=11.932(6), c=29.039(18) Angstroem, Z=4, dm=1.05, dc=1.19 Mg m-3.The structure was solved by direct methods with MULTAN 78 and refined by full-matrix least-squares calculations to R=0.046 for 1485 observed reflections.Although four stereoisomers are theoretically possible, depending on the stereochemical course of the reaction, only one is formed, D=+174 deg (1.092 g dm-3, dioxane).The structural study shows that the two 2-oxobornyl groups are linked to the exocyclic carbon atom by their endo bonds, which establishes, with certainty, the stereochemical course of the reaction.
