aluminum acetate solution (Burow’s solution) has astringent and antiseptic properties, and is used in astringent lotions and protective creams. This is a mixture of alkali metal acetate, acetic acid, and dibasic aluminum acetate with boric acid as a formulation stabilizer. Some cosmetic companies try to avoid using this ingredient because of its metal content and the benefits of metalbased products on the skin are questioned by some manufacturers. Prolonged and continuous use can produce skin rashes and severe skin sloughing.
